Make Your Rugs Smile With A Carpet Steam Cleaner

Posted by Ted Johnson on September 30, 2009 under Household | Be the First to Comment

Anyone who has ever decorated with rugs or carpeting knows what a chore rug shampooing can be. The machines for rent in home stores or even grocery stores do a very poor job mainly because all they do is spread dirty soapy water around the surface without removing any of the suds. Do this a few times, and your rugs are on the way to ruin. All too frequently if we choose to try the service of a professional carpet cleaning company we are disappointed as well. The real solution is a carpet steam cleaner.

Steam cleaners are really nothing new. We have steamers for furniture, steamers for clothes, and even for interior and exterior walls. Almost everything can be steamed but it’s always wise to do a small patch test first. The heat can actually take out color if not applied correctly. However, steam really does its best work on carpeting or heavy furniture.

For major stains of all kinds including blood, ink or even grease, steam cleaning is the best choice. When steam is forced through fibers, and mixed with a mild acidic cleaning solution, the combination helps to lift dirt and remove it completely. The steam will melt the dirt and makes it easier to brush away.

The commercial machines available for rent are not from the steam cleaner variety. These machines only mix soap with room temperature that is squeezed through brushes and spread over the rugs. Unfortunately, all these machines do is move dirty soapy water from one place to another without removing it from the carpeting. After a few of these shampoos, the carpet fibers are severely damaged by the buildup of soap and dirt.

Steam cleaners are a worthy investment for anyone who has a carpet or even a room size covered by rug. A good one will be about $300. Make sure it has the ability to remove the dirty water – don’t buy a low end machine that only produces steam but doesn’t have the ability to remove it. There’s no sense steaming the dirt, loosening it, and then leaving it where it was. Styles vary but the top quality models come with large reservoirs to hold enough water to clean an average 10′ x 12′ room. They also have smaller reservoirs to hold a mild acidic soap solution to help loosen the dirt. Once the machine is turned on, the water is quickly heated to a steamy vapor and mixed appropriately with the soap solution as it is released onto the fibers.

The best steam cleaner designs have water reservoirs large enough to handle an entire room of average size. These machines are so effective that you’ll see the difference right away, even in high traffic areas. In areas such as children’s rooms or dining areas you might need to clean the rug more than once, but don’t worry about fiber damage – the water will be removed before it can damage anything.

High end machines make cleaning up a breeze. No one wants to spend extra time cleaning a machine after spending hours cleaning the floors. These machines have snap out parts that can be either being rinsed under water or even put into the dishwasher. Even most brush mechanisms can be popped off, rinsed out, and placed into the dishwasher.

Keep in mind that these machines are pretty noisy, so plan accordingly.

Say Good Morning To Supportive Mattresses

Posted by Stuart Russell on September 14, 2009 under Household | Be the First to Comment

In my opinion, mattresses maketh the man or woman!. A good quality mattress is essential for health and comfort, not to mention a good night’s sleep. With our increasingly hectic lives, getting off to sleep can be quite troublesome enough, and if the bed is uncomfortable then it can easily lead to a bad night’s sleep. That will, in turn, almost certainly result in you feeling grumpy and lethargic the next day, which does no one much good.

If you sleep with a partner then with a poor quality mattress you may find that you disturb each other throughout the night. Poorly constructed mattresses pass on the movements from one side to the other, meaning that if you roll over, your partner will probably be tossed and turned as though sleeping in a boat. These jostling can disrupt sleep patterns, making you feel lethargic the following morning.

If you have a poor quality mattress, then over time the disturbed sleep you experience will contribute towards a number of other issues, and it’s not always obvious that it’s your mattress that is responsible. If you start to feel lethargic all the time, lacking in energy or even feeling depressed, it could all be down to a lack of quality sleep, directly attributable to your mattress.

It’s not always easy to identify the mattress as the problem, or even that your sleeping is being disturbed, since your sleep can be interrupted without you actually fully waking up. If you tend to toss and turn a lot at night, this is more often because of an uncomfortable mattress digging in. You turn over to lessen the pressure on certain parts of your body. Although you may not wake up every time, your sleep pattern is interrupted, and this can cause you to feel tired.

For a long time I have suffered from back problems like so many people. Almost half of us in the UK have back problems of one kind or another, but we often do little to help ourselves. I didn’t give my old mattress much thought, but after staying in a hotel which had a high quality mattress I immediately realised the difference it can make, and quickly replaced my aging heap with a top quality mattress which now supports my back properly.

I can honestly say that having replaced my old, sagging mattress with a high quality, fully supportive mattress my back has felt miles better. Not only that, but over the past few weeks it has been very noticeable that I have more energy.

If you’ve ever woken with a stiff back, or felt lethargic during the day, or simply felt that you weren’t able to get off to sleep properly then, like me, you may have compromised on your mattress. But replacing an old mattress with a new high quality one doesn’t necessarily mean a huge expense. Certainly I wouldn’t recommend that anyone sacrifices their health and comfort for the sake of a cheap mattress. We spend a third of our lives in bed we might as well be comfortable and healthy.

I chose mine in Cleverclicker.co.uk, mainly because they offer one of the widest ranges I’ve seen anywhere, at prices I haven’t managed to find lower yet. Of course, if you choose to buy from the high street you have the problem of getting the mattress home – not good for the back. Cleverclicker.co.uk deliver their mattresses free of charge, saving you even more money and effort. You’ll notice the difference straight away – in your back as well as your bank.

If you are thinking of shopping online for your home, then take a look at this new website CleverClicker.co.uk. They sell a wide range of household goods including cheap mattresses and at prices we thought were the lowest around. The appeal was even gooder when you knew they provided a free UK delivery service. So if you are after a good value mattresses or childrens bedroom furniture, click on today.

Grass Growing? Mow It The Right Way

Posted by George Ross on under Household | Be the First to Comment

Keeping your lawn pretty and healthy is a weekly activity for most households. Different folks use different styles and have different approaches in keeping their lawn immaculate. There are basic rules though that we must always follow. Here are some must do tips for mowing the right and safe way.

Always clear the area before you start mowing. It is very important to eliminate hazards and the likelihood of mishaps. Keep children away from all lawn mowing activities at all times. Make sure that none of them are in the mowing area. Never introduce kids to rides in a riding mower as a recreational activity. Children can fall off a mower resulting to serious injuries. They can also interfere with safe unit operation.

Make it a point to always inspect the area you are going to mow. Free your lawn from any debris, rocks and branches. You dont want to be the victim of flying rocks and debris or anyone else for that matter. It could also greatly damage your machine costing you a lot of money.

At all times, consider your safety. Wear goggles to protect your eyes. Sandals and sneakers might not be such a good idea for a lawn mowing activity. Wear sturdy shoes that have non slip soles. Some people have incurred serious injuries by slipping during a mowing session.

Protect your health! Never start a lawn mower inside a garage or a in a garden shed. Remember that carbon monoxide is a by product of gasoline and is highly toxic. Start your mower in an open area where there is lots of fresh air. When refueling, always do it outdoors and with your engine turned off. Choose gasoline with at least 87 minimum octane.

Mowing is best done when the grass is dry, and during daytime when vision is better. When approaching blind corners, shrubs, trees or other objects that could obstruct your view, always exercise caution. Cut just a third of the grass’s length every time to keep your grass healthy. You can adjust the cutting length by shifting the mowing deck. Turn the engine off before you do any adjustment.

Make a different pattern every time you cut your grass. You can go from east to west, or north to south, or do it in angles. BY doing this, you can keep your grass healthy and keep the soil from compacting because of your mower wheels.

For lawn mowing activities on a hill, when using a walk behind mower, mow across and never up and down. Do not pull the machine backwards toward your feet. If you have a riding mower, the opposite is best. Do not drive a riding mower across a hill as this may cause you to tip it.

People employ different ways to keep their lawns in excellent condition. Always refer to these unfailing basic tips for a wonderful, safe, and accident free greenery.

Go Without Batteries With A Crank Flashlight

Posted by Giselle Macenzy on September 6, 2009 under Household | Be the First to Comment

Crank flashlights liberate users from battery addiction! Flashlights are useful in an almost endless array of circumstances. Campers use flashlights to find their way through the wilds at night. Children navigate the twists and turns of scary stories accompanies by the shining light of a flashlight. A husband slipping out of bed before dawn to prepare breakfast in bed for his wife can feel his way to the kitchen with the aid of a flashlight.

Using a crank flashlight saves money by not buying batteries, which can be very expensive over a period of time. With a crank power flashlight you will never run out of power because the batteries are dying. If you keep the flashlight charged it will be ready to use whenever you need it.

There isn’t much difference between a crank flashlight and a normal battery powered flashlight besides the way they are powered. For all the batteries you would save not buying batteries for a flashlight it would save the environment that much more.

Being human-powered, the crank flashlight can operate as long as the bulb lasts, making it much more convenient as a bulb does not need to be replaced as often as a battery. The other functions some crank flashlights have, such as radios and lamps, have made the product very appealing.

The built in radio that a crank flashlight may have serves as a portable source of entertainment for those without electricity, and again without the need of a battery. A built-in lamp serves as a much more wider source of light, perfect for illuminating rooms, cars, or tents. The emergency value of the crank flashlight is immensely important. By making the flashlight battery-less, the crank flashlight can be stored and left almost anywhere to allow for immediate use.

It’s perfect for leaving in a glove compartment, under a car seat, backpack, desk drawer, or even in storage areas like an attic or basement. Because the flashlight may or may not have a multitude of attachments, the size may vary. More portable units are much smaller with a smaller bulb and hand crank, while others can be as big as a 2 liter bottle of soda as they carry more than just the flashlight.

They have all types and sizes of different crank flashlights to choose from. You should check them out because they will save you money and everyone you know will want to go get one since it’s such an awesome thing to have.

Renting A Skip for Clearing Your House

Posted by Lily McKinnon Smith on August 22, 2009 under Household | Be the First to Comment

Every household once in a while needs a good clear out. We all seem to accumulate so much junk over long periods of time its a wonder that we dont sometimes end up sinking beneath it all. Often, the most cost effective solution for clearing out all of your junk is to hire a skip, rather than make lots of trips to the local tip.

Additionally it is increasingly common that these days many of the better skip companies will segregate your waste for recycling rather than just tipping it in landfill. There are several advantages to this, firstly it will ease your conscience as you are helping the planet rather than pollution it, but also, you are saving future resources through your recycling.

Full skips are taken from the customer and are emptied onto a sorting pad where different materials are separated, metals from wood, plastic, concrete, soil, glass etc these materials are then stored in bulk for processing at a later date. The skip initially costs the customer no more than a conventional landfill skip, and the skip company can recover its additional labour costs from the sale of some of the contents. It really is a win – win situation for all concerned.

When deciding on how big a skip to hire, it is always better to hire one slightly larger than you expect that you will need because its better not quite to fill a skip than to fill one and not clear your house completely, or to have to hire another one.

You can also order lockable skips to prevent fly tippers from filling your skip for you. It is an age old problem that has caused many arguments between neighbours since time began, but there is nothing more irritating than paying for a skip and having someone in essence steal it from you. For this reason, lockable skips are a huge boon and will help you to relax.

If you intend to have the skip parked in the street you will need to obtain a street permit from the council. Your skip company should be able to do this for you without any additional charge or problems, they will also ensure that the skip is coned off and has suitable night lights. Complying with local health and safety is vital as you could find yourself liable if an accident were to occur.
